At the request of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the federal government has granted an additional Rs8 billion in funding for Karachi’s “water requirement project” by reappropriating funds from two slow infrastructure improvement projects in Hyderabad and Karachi.
On January 9, 2025, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah formally asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for additional funding through reappropriation to close the funding gap for the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) project “Water requirement for K-IV project, improvement of Kalri Baghar Feeder and Keenjhar Lake 2024-25,” according to official correspondence obtained by The News.
The chief minister of Sindh requested that the federal government reallocate Rs6 billion from sluggish “Karachi Urban” projects in order to provide Rs10 billion in the current fiscal year.
