During a ninety-minute address in Asheville, North Carolina, Trump promised to reduce consumer costs and raise wages by doing away with environmental restrictions, enacting lasting tax cuts, and changing energy policy.
The appearance on Wednesday marked the former president’s second rally in two weeks, indicating a slower campaign pace.
Frequently straying from the subject at hand, he attacked Vice President Kamala Harris, her political adversary, and once declared he was “not sure the economy is the most important topic” of the race.
Trump made no fresh policy announcements in his speech.
Last month, US inflation increased at its weakest rate in almost three years, providing consumers with some reprieve and potentially helping the Harris campaign.
In addition, Trump promised to reverse President Joe Biden’s approval of infrastructure and renewable energy projects and to cut energy costs by allowing more acreage to be used for drilling.
He declared toward the end of his speech that he would continue to implement Obamacare, often known as the Affordable Care Act. When he was in office, he had previously attempted to get rid of it.
Trump regularly deviated from his script, calling Ms. Harris “not smart” and possessing “the laugh of a crazy person” in addition to criticizing her on immigration, crime, and other topics.
