After his brief tenure as Manchester United’s manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, the new manager of Leicester City, admits he was “astonished” by the level of interest in him.
On Friday, the former Netherlands striker took Steve Cooper’s place on a contract that would last until 2027, but he said he had other options.
After Erik ten Hag was fired, he served as caretaker manager for four games at Old Trafford until departing when Ruben Amorim was hired last month.
The 48-year-old was swiftly brought to King Power Stadium by Leicester, and Van Nistelrooy acknowledged he had other alternatives.
“I must admit that there were opportunities and offers there. The Dutchman added, “It’s good to have them and to look and be critical about where you’re going to work.”
