At a press conference, the Republican presidential nominee announced that the two would meet at his Trump Tower property at approximately 09:45 ET (14:45 BST).
The meeting is scheduled to take place, contrary to earlier reports that it was canceled due to mounting resentment from prominent Republicans following Zelensky’s earlier visit to Pennsylvania, a crucial swing state in the US.
Zelensky visited Vice President Kamala Harris and US President Joe Biden on Thursday at the White House to discuss his “victory plan,” which he hopes would put pressure on Russia to accept a peaceful conclusion to the conflict.
“I will be meeting with President Zelensky tomorrow morning. He has requested a meeting with me,” Trump said reporters in New York.
Furthermore, what’s going on in Ukraine is regrettable. So much devastation, so many dead. It’s the worst thing.
Trump expressed confidence that he could “quite quickly” “make a deal” between Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I don’t want to tell you what that looks like” was his response when pressed for specifics of the agreement.
Following Zelensky’s previous meeting with Biden and Harris, the former US president was speaking. Biden had just hours before proposed an additional $7.9 billion (£5.9 billion) military aid package for Ukraine.
