Early on Wednesday, a truck purposefully crashed into a crowded area on Canal and Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter at great speed, killing at least 10 people and injuring at least 30, according to municipal officials.
According to a statement from the city, the event happened during New Year’s Eve festivities near the intersection of Canal and Bourbon Streets.
Located in the city’s French Quarter, Bourbon Street is a historic tourist magnet that draws sizable crowds because to its bars and music.
The FBI announced on Wednesday that investigators had discovered a suspected improvised explosive device at the location.
“We are working on confirming if this is a viable device or not,” Special Agent Alethea Duncan stated during a press briefing.
