Although employees were unclear about the specifics of the agreement, the White House said that over 40,000 US government employees had accepted the offer to quit in exchange for compensation through September 30.
In order to examine the merits of a lawsuit brought by federal employee unions who questioned the plan’s legality, Federal Judge George O’Toole Jr. announced that the proposal will be put on hold until a hearing on Monday.
The directive was issued just hours before federal employees were due to approve the agreement at 23:59 ET (04:59 GMT) on Thursday.
According to a Justice Department attorney, federal workers will be informed by the White House’s Office of Personnel Management (OPM) that the deadline has been postponed, news stated.
