A 46-year-old man, identified by Russian media as Mikhail Pichugin, was discovered by a fishing boat crew almost 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) from his departure point in early August, according to officials. According to reports, the boat contained the bodies of his brother and his 15-year-old nephew.
According to Mr. Pichugin’s wife, the three had collected food supplies for two weeks and gone whale watching at sea.
He weighed 100 kg (15 kg 10 lb) when he set out on the journey, and she told Russia’s state-run Ria Novosti news agency that his weight might have contributed to his survival.
As of now, we know nothing. All we know is that he’s still alive. It’s a miracle of some sort, she informed the Russian agency.
She added that although their daughter was meant to go on the disastrous vacation, she had made the decision to go back home.
After the trio’s disappearance was reported, Ria said a helicopter search had turned up no signs of them.
According to the Russian news agency, the boat was found Monday while floating past a fishing boat in the Sea of Okhotsk, off the shore of the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia’s far east.
