23-year-old Senior Airman Roger Fortson was sent to a hospital, where he passed away, according to officials.
Citing a witness, the victim’s family attorney said the cops broke into the wrong house.
Authorities have refuted the allegation, stating that the deputy responded in self-defense upon seeing Fortson brandishing a gun.
On May 3, the airman was shot at his residence, which is five miles (8 km) away from Hurlburt Field, Florida, the home base of the Special Operations Wing.
Police have not released the name of the deputy who shot him, but he has already been placed on administrative leave.
According to Okaloosa County Sheriff Eric Aden, the State Attorney’s Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are also looking into the shooting.
