During World War Two, Ronald Brignall, at 16 years old, prevented Cardiff City Hall from being destroyed.
To complete the task, Mr. Brignall climbed back up the pipe while holding a fire hose between his teeth.
He was pursuing a plumbing qualification at the university at the time.
He witnessed an incendiary bomb land on the roof of City Hall while he was making his way home.
At the time, he informed his local media that he had destroyed his suit and that lugging the sandbag had left his jaw sore.
Mr. Brignall stated prior to receiving his honor that he “didn’t have any concern” and that he “simply wanted to make sure the bomb didn’t do.
