ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) mandated that the government locate fugitive poet Ahmed Farhad of Kashmir by Friday.
Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued the order during the petitioner’s hearing in order to facilitate the poet’s recovery.
Farhad, who is renowned for his rebellious writing, was reportedly kidnapped last week from his home. On May 15, his wife filed a motion with the IHC asking for his recovery and asking the court to find, look into, and bring charges against those who took him missing.
Iman Mazari, a human rights attorney, defended the poet’s wife in court.
Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan gave the IHC judge his word regarding the Farhad’s recovery and rescue.
“We’re willing to go above and above. “[We] will save and retrieve [Farhad],” the AGP declared as they addressed the IHC judge and assumed accountability for the investigation.
Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Islamabad, and the interior secretary were also present at the hearing.
Justice Kayani instructed the AGP to make sure that “no one gets picked up from Islamabad” during the hearing.
