LAHORE: According to a spokesman on Sunday, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has started construction on a groundbreaking public sculpture garden that would be located near Lahore’s famed Nasser Bagh.
The spokesman clarified that the sculpture park will consist of an outdoor garden with sculptures and several permanently installed pieces made of sturdy materials in manicured settings.
The proposed facility, which is anticipated to open early next month, would work in tandem with The Barracks, a brand-new art gallery created by the PHA that Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman opened at the famous location in February.
Famous painters like Imran Qureshi, Risham Hosain Syed, Saeed Akhtar, Talat Dabir, Shahid Sajjad, Rasheed Araeen, Rashid Rana, Tahir Mahmood, and Meherunnisa Asad were first commissioned by the department for the project.
To maintain Nasser Bagh’s holiness, the sculptures will be made of clay, grass, concrete, and other environmentally acceptable materials, according to the spokeswoman.
The art pieces will be a permanent feature of The Barracks art gallery, the spokesperson said, “a gift from the artists and friends of Lahore to the city.”
