According to Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, the current leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is “powerless,” and talks cannot begin unless the party’s imprisoned founder, Imran Khan, sends a clear message.
The defense minister stated in an interview with News that the PTI leadership now in office is powerless to make decisions.
The PTI founder threatened to start a “civil disobedience” movement earlier this month if his demands—which include a court investigation into the crackdown on party supporters—were not fulfilled. Additionally, he established a committee for negotiations with the administration.
Concerning the feasibility of negotiations with PTI, the minister stated that the current leadership of the troubled party was not in agreement.
