According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the population of the nation is expected to double by 2050 at the current rate of population increase.
The PBS-compiled “First Ever Digital Census Key Findings Report” was unveiled on Thursday by Professor Ahsan Iqbal, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives.
The report, which represents a major accomplishment for Pakistan, offers thorough data that is essential for the growth of both urban and rural areas as well as efficient catastrophe response.
With a total population of 241.49 million, including the most populated cities in each of the province capitals, Pakistan is the fifth most populous country in the world, according to the detailed results of the 7th Population and Housing Census-2023.According to census data, the country’s population is growing at the highest pace in the region, 2.55%, and if this trend continues, it will double by 2050.
Based on the data, Sindh province has a population of 55.70 million, whereas Karachi is the most populous city with 20.4 million.
With 13 million residents, Lahore is the second most populated city in the meantime, while the province has 127.69 million people living in it.
Peshawar, with 4.76 million, comes in third. Khyber Pakhtunkhawa has 40.86 million people living there, Quetta has 2.59 million, and Balochistan has 14.89 million people living in its province.
