PESHAWAR: Ali Amin Gandapur, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, announced on Tuesday that he would spearhead the PTI’s (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) nationwide demonstrations against the recent constitutional reform, but he did not specify a date.
Speaking to Peshawar’s media, Gandapur stated that the PTI rejected the constitutional amendments aimed at judicial reform.
The amendment is an assault on the judiciary’s independence. He vowed that his party will repeal the amendment, saying, “We will speak out against these ‘illegitimate’ changes to the Constitution.
He claimed that by passing this law, the current rulers would be allowed to pick judges of their choosing to render favorable decisions.
He made these comments after the ruling coalition used a two-thirds majority with 225 and 65 votes to successfully pass the highly controversial judicial reforms through the parliament.
