She is well recognized for her work as a voice coach on American Idol and The Voice. She has coached celebrities including Kelly Clarkson, Barry Manilow, Jennifer Hudson, and Bob Dylan.
Tuesday, she passed away in Los Angeles. The reason of death was not stated.
Jennifer Hudson, an actress and singer, paid homage on news by posting a image of herself practicing with Byrd and performing alongside Sir Elton John.
“Heartbroken over the passing of Debra Byrd, the American Idol vocal coach,” wrote Hudson. She was there for us from the start, encouraging and helping! I am incredibly appreciative of all that mom taught us. Although she will be greatly missed, her impact will always be heard in the music of the many artists she influenced in her lifetime.
“Rest in peace, Debra.”
Entertainer Barry Manilow posted a photo of himself and Byrd performing and wrote, “Today is one of the worst days of my life.” It’s just beyond my comprehension.
