Uncommitted delegates, who are against US backing for Israel’s assault in Gaza, started a sit-in demonstration on Wednesday night right outside the arena’s entrance.
However, organizers stated they had not heard back from Kamala Harris’s campaign by Thursday at 18:00 local time, the deadline they had set for them to speak up. They had asked for a Palestinian to be let to speak on stage.
Thousands of protesters outside the perimeter continued to gather against the White House’s policies and the war in Gaza on the eve of the sit-in protest during the convention.
With the exception of one modest, unofficial protest, this week’s protests have been mainly peaceful.
Layla Elabed, a co-leader of the uncommitted national movement, said, “This has been a disastrous decision by the Democratic leadership to deny a bare-minimum ask that we requested weeks ago, prior to the convention.”
The Harris campaign informed the media that Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the campaign manager, had recently spoken with leaders of the undecided movement.
“Several speakers have addressed the Gaza conflict and the necessity of achieving a ceasefire and hostage agreement. You will keep hearing that message, an official stated.
