A top Houthi leader demanded that the UN Security Council step in and put an end to the conflict in Gaza. The Houthi supreme revolutionary committee chief in Yemen, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, responded to the UNSC’s demand that the armed group immediately cease its attacks on ships in the Red Sea. He declared, “We demand the immediate release of 2.3 million people from the Israeli-American siege in Gaza by the Security Council.” On Wednesday, the UNSC subtly supported a US-led task force that has been defending ships amid rising hostilities over attacks along one of the world’s busiest trade lanes. The council was informed by US ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield that “there will be consequences if the Houthi attacks continue.”
