Many Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs who were detained following a recent rally in Islamabad were placed under eight days of physical remand, but the Islamabad High Court nullified this order and placed the detainees under judicial remand.
Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz, who make up the two-member special bench, rendered the verdict. The decision was postponed in response to petitions challenging the legality of the PTI MNAs’ physical remand.
Chief Justice Aamir Farooq voiced worry about the arrest of MNAs without following the correct protocol during the hearing and made strong remarks regarding the legislators’ arrest from Parliament House. “Although the speaker of the National Assembly is likely carrying out his duties, the court has the authority to inquire further.
