In the opening ball of Pakistan’s second innings of the Multan Test, England reached the fourth-highest total in Test match history when Abdullah Shafique was bowled out for a duck.
England scored an enormous 823/7 in response to Pakistan’s 556 runs in the first innings.
Joe Root made 262 off 375 deliveries, while Harry Brook scored 317 from 322 balls. Together, they made up the strongest partnership in Test history.
On the fourth day of the match, with little under 40 overs remaining, England’s total led Pakistan by 267 runs.
After hitting a four off spinner Saim Ayub, the 25-year-old became the sixth English player to score 300 or more in a Test match. He did so in 310 balls.
