According to the civil aviation ministry, passengers should receive their luggage 10 to 30 minutes after landing.
The airlines have till February 26th to abide by the directive.
The issue of delayed baggage delivery has been a recurring concern in airports.
Seven airlines, including Air India, Vistara, and IndiGo, were given instructions by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to put the appropriate procedures in place to guarantee baggage delivery on time.
The aviation ministry tracked how long it took for travelers’ bags to be delivered at six significant Indian airports before issuing the directive. Seven airlines’ operations were examined.
According to a government statement, the review process started in January and is still going on.
Additionally, it stated that even though all airlines’ performance in terms of baggage delivery had improved, it still fell short of the required standards.
The first suitcase must reach the baggage belt “within 10 minutes of shutting off the aircraft engine and the last bag within 30 minutes of the same,” the directive stated.
Indian travelers have expressed their dissatisfaction with airport baggage delivery procedures on multiple occasions.
There have occasionally been delays of nearly an hour for baggage, and if there are technical problems with the baggage belt, the wait time increases.
