Using AI in marketing and customer support, the company hopes to shrink its headcount from 5,000 to 2,000 personnel, having already reduced it to 3,800 in the previous year.
Manager Sebastian Siemiatkowski told the news that Klarna would be able to compensate its remaining employees more as a result of the job reduction.
However, he stated that the government needed to consider its options regarding AI, since he believed it will have “a dramatic impact” on employment and society.
He said, “I think politicians already today should consider whether there are other alternatives of how they could support people that may be effective,” on program.
He claimed it was “too simplistic” to assume that there would be future employment creation.
“I mean, maybe you can become an influencer, but it’s hard to do so if you are 55 years old,” he stated.
The recent spread of AI has drawn attention to both its advantages and disadvantages.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicted earlier this year that artificial intelligence (AI) would “likely worsen overall inequality” and affect about 40% of all jobs.
