“Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid CF have reached an agreement whereby he will play for Real Madrid for the next five seasons,” the team said on Monday night.
Mbappe declared the transfer to be a “dream come true,” adding that “nobody can understand how excited I am right now.”
The announcement was reportedly purposefully delayed until after Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory in the Champions League final on Saturday.
Mbappe will join the European champions on a free transfer, and in addition to his £12.8 million post-tax yearly salary, he will receive an £85 million bonus spread over five years.
The 25-year-old captain of France declared he was leaving his native team.
He was the club’s best scorer during his seven years there, with 256 goals in 308 games, including 44 this season.
Mbappe informed French President Emmanuel Macron earlier on Monday, while he was touring the national team, that the deal will likely be finalized in a few hours.
Though many consider Mbappe to be among the finest players in the world, he was unable to win PSG the Champions League title that the team’s owners so much want despite his prolific scoring.
