Microsoft has created VASA-1, an AI system that can produce a lifelike video of a person’s face and speech.
The software behemoth was able to produce a video with the renowned “Mona Lisa” painting by Leonardo da Vinci singing to the popular 2011 rap song “Paparazzi” by US actress Anne Hathaway, all thanks to VASA-1.
Microsoft’s AI movie, according to CNET, shows off the technology’s quick progress, but a rapping Mona Lisa borders on weird.
In order to produce aesthetically pleasing films from text prompts, OpenAI and Google have also developed text-to-video models, called Sora and Lumiere, respectively. However, their availability is restricted.
According to CNET, scientists have been experimenting for years with lifelike video modifications, or “deepfakes,” which has experts concerned about misinformation spreading more and more.
