A police officer was convicted of manslaughter after Tasering a 95-year-old woman at an Australian care facility who had dementia signs.
Clare Nowland was discovered roaming with a little kitchen knife in the early hours of May 17, 2023, and Kristian White, 34, used his weapon on her.
The public was outraged by her death a week later, but White, a senior policeman, maintained during his trial that his use of force was appropriate and acceptable given the circumstances.
However, prosecutors claimed that Mrs. Nowland, who weighed less than 48 kg (105 lb) and needed a walker to get around, was not a threat and that the “impatient” officer had disregarded his duty of care to her.
Yallambee Lodge in the town received a request for police and paramedics.
