In the midst of speculation that he will quit the throne sooner than anticipated, King Charles abandoned a centuries-old royal custom for his son, Prince William.
In defiance of centuries-old custom, the queen reportedly chose not to arrange an investiture ceremony for William upon his accession as Prince of Wales.
Following his own unfavorable experience at his investiture ceremony at Caernarfon Castle in 1969, which was tainted by protestors and a foiled bomb plot, Welsh journalist Huw Thomas disclosed in an interview with The Sun Royal Exclusive show that Charles did not want the ceremony for William.
He told the publication, “It was known that [Charles] didn’t enjoy that experience, it was known that he felt using in this big political, theatrical moment.”
“[Made] it,” Charles said.
