Do you put on sunscreen every day? What an act of white supremacy! When I tell most brown individuals I know that I wear sunblock every single day, they exactly repeat this sentence back to me. I respond with a constant spiel that I have been rehearsing in my head, which I view as a low-key act of social activism. I would advise you to believe me and take this seriously because I am writing this from my desk having just reapplied sunscreen for the first time today.
Like every story (or cautionary letter), let’s begin at the beginning. Generally speaking, sunscreen is a lotion that, when applied, remains on the skin to shield it from UVA and UVB radiation.
