In order to construct detention centers for undocumented migrants, Texas officials say they are willing to donate President-elect Donald Trump 1,400 acres (567 hectares) of land along the US-Mexico border.
Building facilities for “processing, detention, and co-ordination of the largest deportation of violent criminals in the nation’s history” could be constructed on the property, according to a letter from the Texas General Land Office.
Trump has made it clear time and time again that he will deport millions of undocumented migrants and use the National Guard to assist in this effort.
However, his plan is likely to encounter significant logistical and budgetary obstacles in addition to immediate legal challenges from rights groups.
