The United States government has mandated the temporary cessation of operations for Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft until they undergo inspection, following an Alaska Airlines aircraft blowout that resulted in a large hole in the fuselage. Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Mike Whitaker, announced on Saturday that some aircraft must undergo emergency inspections before they are allowed to resume operations. The order affects 171 aircraft globally. Each aircraft will require four to eight hours for the necessary inspections.Boeing declared in a statement on Saturday that it concurs with the FAA’s ruling. Following an incident the day before that resulted in a plane window and a piece of fuselage blowing out, Alaska Airlines said earlier on Saturday that it was grounding its fleet of 737-9 aircraft.
