Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, the chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), clarified the body’s fatwa (Islamic edict) on VPNs, or encrypted internet networks, on Monday. He stated that whether a VPN is Islamic or not mostly depends on how it is used.
Speaking on the “Geo Pakistan” morning broadcast on Geo News, Naeemi stated that using a VPN for offensive material and misleading propaganda, whether it is registered or not, is not Islamic.
On November 15, the CII deemed VPN use to be un-Islamic, emphasizing the necessity of preventing access to blasphemous or immoral online content.
The government had the authority to suppress evil and bar access to it, according to a declaration made by CII Chairman Naeemi.
