The 91-year-old author Barbara Taylor Bradford, whose best-selling books include A Woman of Substance, passed away.
In addition to selling 30 million copies when it was first published in 1979, A Woman of Substance inspired seven follow-ups and a television adaptation that remains the most-watched show in Channel 4’s history.
It was the first of 40 books written by Taylor Bradford, including the House of Falconer trilogy, Cavendon, and Ravenscar.
In tribute, Lynne Drew, her editor and publisher, said: “Dominating the bestseller lists, she broke new ground with her sweeping epic novels spanning generations, novels which were resolutely not romances, and she epitomised the woman of substance she created, particularly with her ruthless work ethic.”
