“We continue to stand with Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism,” U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated Monday at a weekly congressional briefing.
In response to a query about fatalities at a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) march, Miller emphasized the significance of peaceful protests everywhere, including in Pakistan.
He said that demonstrations everywhere, including in Pakistan, should be nonviolent and urged the government to interact with demonstrators in a nonviolent manner.
At least three Rangers members and two police officers were killed in violent conflicts during the protest march that the previous ruling party organized on November 24.
