Along with a number of investigative journalists and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the State Department and “deep state” groups in the US of attempting to destabilize India.
The charge is unexpected because Washington and New Delhi have developed a close relationship over the past 20 years and have pledged to deepen their relationship even further in spite of disagreements and annoyances.
The ruling party stated on Thursday that Gandhi’s Congress party has undermined Modi by using articles from the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) that “singularly focused” on the Adani Group and its purported ties to the government.
