The Republican presidential candidate called what happened at his Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday afternoon “quite something,” but he also said, “but it all worked out well.”
Federal firearms charges have been brought against Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, after a Secret Service agent saw a rifle sticking out of the bushes and fired at the suspect.
The Secret Service attested that one of its agents was the only one to fire a gun throughout the event.
Before the agent noticed Routh, he was about the West Palm Beach golf course for almost 12 hours, an FBI agent said.
“I was playing golf with some of my friends on a Sunday morning and very peaceful, very beautiful weather,” Mr. Trump said during a social media event organized by X. and all of a sudden, there seemed to be four or five shots fired into the air, and they sounded like bullets.
“The Secret Service apprehended me as soon as they realized it was gunshots. Everyone simply got into the golf carts, and we continued.
He continued, complimenting the Secret Service on their “amazing job,” saying, “There was no doubt that we were off that course.”
