President Joe Biden’s approval of Cyprus’ access to US military hardware significantly improved the country’s bilateral ties with the US.
Once allied with Russia, the Mediterranean country changed its attitude to support the United States after President Nikos Christodoulides was elected in 2023.
Biden claimed in a White House memo that supplying Cyprus with defense-related goods and services would improve US security and promote world peace.
Cyprus has been approved to receive military equipment through programs including Foreign Military Sales and the Excess Defense Articles initiative, according to confirmation from the US Embassy in Nicosia.
