Recently, the gadget has been observed circling the grounds of President-elect Donald Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida, Mar-a-Lago club.
They lack weaponry, and as long as their routes are pre-programmed, they can all be operated remotely or automatically.
A sign that reads, “DO NOT PET,” is displayed on each of Spot’s legs to alert onlookers.
“I’m not sure why anyone would want to pet these mechanical pets. Melissa Michelson, a political scientist at Menlo College, stated, “They don’t look cute.”
On TikTok, a video of Spot strutting around the property went viral. Comments ranged from cool and cute to disturbing, and it became the basis for gags on late-night television in the United States. Its aim, however, is serious business.
