Following heavy rain, major rivers throughout Britain flooded. The government issued over 300 flood warnings, travel agencies announced severe disruptions, and approximately 1,000 homes have been damaged thus far.
The persistent rains that began on Thursday fell on saturated ground as a result of a series of storms that had occurred in previous weeks, rapidly causing rivers and waterways that were already swollen to burst their banks throughout Wales and England.
In recent days, the storms have also caused floods in other parts of Europe.
