Numerous bacteria were found in the body of Sonia, the elephant that died at the Safari Park in Karachi, according to the post-mortem report.
According to the report, Sonia’s health problems were largely caused by an old abscess on her foot, which resulted in a serious bacterial infection that was ultimately fatal.
Treatment for the abscess had only just started with the transfer of another elephant, Madhubala, according to the Four Paws charity. They underlined that Sonia’s death was caused by an inappropriate setting and insufficient treatment.
Only Malka and Madhubala, two elephants, are left at the Safari Park after Sonia’s passing.
