After clinging to inner tubes for three days during harsh weather in the Mediterranean, an 11-year-old girl was rescued.
Her cries for assistance were heard by rescuers from the non-governmental organization Compass Collective, who said they were in route to another emergency.
The Sierra Leonean girl, who wished to remain anonymous, informed them that she had left Sfax, Tunisia, with forty-four other persons. The other migrants were thought to be dead, and their boat had sunk.
Every year, thousands of migrants lose their lives while attempting to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe.
