Hector Daher, a prominent union leader, stated that President Javier Milei needed to wake up after the 24-hour strike.
He should reconsider some of the reductions to social programs and subsidies, Mr. Daher pleaded.
Since taking office in December, Mr. Milei, a right-wing economist who used a chainsaw during the campaign to symbolize his goal to cut back on public expenditure, has started enacting extensive austerity measures.
He claims that in order to lower Argentina’s public debt and manage the nation’s inflation rate—which is the highest in the world at about 30% a year.
