According to US experts, the oldest known wild bird in the world deposited an egg at around 74 years old.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) captured a video of Wisdom, a Laysan albatross, caring for her egg at the Midway Atoll national wildlife refuge in the Pacific Ocean.
Although species members typically only live 12–40 years, Wisdom was tagged in 1956 at the age of five.
In 2021, her last child hatched. In her lifetime, she is said to have had around thirty women.
On X, the USFWS revealed that Wisdom had a new companion this year and that Akeakamai, her former partner, had vanished from sight for a number of years.
