Police believe that human remains discovered inside a car in a Georgia pond could be connected to a couple from New York who vanished in 1980.
Authorities in Brunswick drained the pond to look for more remains after discovering a human bone inside a sunken Lincoln Continental on Friday.
The Glynn County Police Department said on social media Saturday that the car matched the description of a car that Charles and Catherine Romer were thought to be driving when they were reported missing in April 1980.
“The VIN number is ultimately what determines a match, and it hasn’t been possible to obtain that from the vehicle found in the pond yet,” a police official told reporters on Tuesday.
