A jury was informed that Daniel Khalife, 23, who subsequently allegedly broke free from Wandsworth prison, where he was being held due to the accusations, had told MI6 he wanted to work as a double agent.
Prosecutor Mark Heywood KC stated that although Khalife “had no real intention to simply get his head down” and started thinking about espionage, he enlisted in the British Army two weeks before turning 17 in September 2018.
At Woolwich Crown Court, it was revealed that his “craft” involved phoning individuals under false pretenses and using various phones when he made contact with an IRGC associate in April.
When Khalife visited Mill Hill Park in Barnet, north London, in August 2019, photographs on his iPhone later revealed that he had picked up a dog waste bag with pictures of paws and bones on it.
The next day, the court heard that Khalife—whose mother is from Iran—was pursuing the process of obtaining a new passport after it was recommended that he go overseas to meet with Iranian agents.
