According to The Express Tribune, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has banned dual nationals from holding positions at the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) as governors, deputy governors, or members of the Monetary Policy Committee.
A committee had been formed by PM Shehbaz to consider a proposal that would allow dual nationals to occupy important roles at the central bank.
Days after the Islamabad High Court denounced a “malicious” social media campaign against Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court, a private bill was submitted to the National Assembly Secretariat last year to prohibit judges from possessing dual nationality.
Articles 177 (appointment of Supreme Court judges), 193 (appointment of High Court judges), and 208 (officers and servants of courts) of the Constitution were to be amended, according to the bill.
