After a thorough inquiry into his disparaging remarks about Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and the team, English referee David Coote was fired by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).
The social media footage that purportedly showed Coote making derogatory comments against Klopp and Liverpool served as the impetus for the probe. The 42-year-old referee’s remarks, which included a remembrance of a Premier League game in which Liverpool and Aston Villa drew 1-1, were exposed by this video.
UEFA acted quickly after the video was made public, suspending Coote on November 11 and opening an investigation into his behavior.
