An official informed on the agreement told Reuters on Wednesday that Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement to stop hostilities in Gaza and swap Israeli hostages for Palestinian detainees, potentially bringing an end to the 15-month conflict that has rocked the Middle East.
The deal came just before U.S. President-elect Donald Trump took office on January 20 and comes after months of intermittent talks mediated by Egyptian and Qatari mediators with support from the United States.
After Hamas-led terrorists breached security barriers and stormed into Israeli neighborhoods on October 7, 2023, murdering 1,200 soldiers and civilians and taking more than 250 Israeli and foreign prisoners, Israeli armies invaded Gaza.
