In comparison to 2022, antisemitic incidents increased by over 80% in the previous year.
There were 4,782 episodes total, or 13 each day on average.
Data from the Federal Association of Departments for Research and Information on Antisemitism (RIAS), a monitoring body, indicates a significant increase in antisemitism after Hamas’s October 7 attacks.
Over the next three months, 2,787 instances were registered.
That exceeds the 2,616 reported for the entire year 2022.
The authors of today’s research stated that although anti-Israel action was cited as the reason for many complaints, Jews were increasingly facing antisemitism in their daily lives, including at work, in schools, and on social media.
According to the study issued today, there was an increase in violent attacks during this period as well, with over two-thirds of all occurrences of extreme violence, assaults, and threats taking place after October 7.
Examples given include the hurling of Molotov cocktails at a Berlin Jewish community center, the setting of fire at the North Rhine-Westphalian home of a Jewish family, and the growing number of “threats of extermination” directed towards Jewish institutions.
“Jews are hounded, threatened, and attacked in every aspect of life. Threats to an open Jewish life have increased after October 7, according to Benjamin Steinitz, managing director of the Bundesverband RIAS.
