The Supreme Court registrar has forwarded the names of the three most senior judges to the parliamentary special committee that will make the decision as the clock runs out on the nomination of Pakistan’s next chief justice.
Sources claim that the court registrar asked the current chief justice of Pakistan for the names. Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah are the three senior justices whose names have been forwarded.
The committee will now take these names into consideration before recommending a new chief justice. The prime minister will review and approve the committee’s proposal before forwarding the name to the president for appointment.
