As officials attempt to mediate peace after over two months of crisis in the area, the great peace jirga, which was called to arbitrate discussions between the warring tribes in the violence-plagued Kurram district, is set to resume today (Tuesday) in Kohat at 11 a.m.
The goal of the two-month-old peace negotiations, which are being supervised by Major General Zulfiqar Bhatti of GOC 9 Division, is to bring about enduring harmony between the warring tribes, whose skirmishes have killed more than 130 people since November.
Tribal elders are still working to negotiate a lasting peace deal, despite the fact that several truces have been declared in the last year.
