LAHORE: On Friday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the removal of Lt Gen Munir Afsar, Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), deeming his appointment to be illegal.
In a petition that the LHC accepted, citizen Ashba Kamran had contested Afsar’s nomination as chairman.
In response to Kamran’s request, Justice Asim Hafeez directed the chairman to be removed.
According to Justice Hafeez, the illegality perpetrated by the appointing authority through an unauthorized appointment cannot be covered up.
Therefore, the judge in his remarks insisted that the appointment was “declared without requisite ‘authority of law'”.
A copy of the order should also be sent to the Ministry of Interior, the federal cabinet, and all other relevant departments, per his instructions.
