The CDC said Tuesday that McDonald’s Quarter Pounder sandwiches contain E. coli, a form of bacteria that can cause significant stomach issues.
In ten states, the CDC has so far documented 49 cases of sickness. In ten incidents, people were admitted to the hospital, and one person lost their life.
According to the CDC, the majority of the cases were found in western and Midwest areas.
According to a CDC statement, the fast-food establishment is collaborating with investigators to identify the chemicals that led to the outbreak.
The CDC said that McDonald’s has already discontinued using quarter-pound beef patties and fresh sliced onions in a number of states, although it is yet unclear which particular food item is tainted.
According to the CDC, the slivered onions are thought to be the most likely source of contamination, and FDA inspectors are trying to find out if the onions were sold to another company.
